Nicogan 40 SC

Nicogan 40 SC is a selective herbicide from the sulfonylurea group, designed for effective control of monocotyledonous weeds in corn crops. It contains 40 g/L nicosulfuron, providing fast and systemic action with complete selectivity towards corn. Details

Description

  • Active Ingredient: Nicosulfuron 40 g/L
  • Formulation: Suspension Concentrate (SC)
  • Packaging: Available in 1 L and 5 L containers

Mode of Action:

  • Nicogan 40 SC is rapidly absorbed through the foliage and translocated systemically via the xylem and phloem.
  • It works by inhibiting the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme, which disrupts the biosynthesis of branched-chain amino acids.
  • As a result, susceptible weeds cease to grow, their leaves discolor, and eventually necrose.
  • The product is fully selective towards corn, which can metabolize the active ingredient, thereby avoiding phytotoxic effects.

Directions for Use:

  1. Crops:
    • Recommended for corn crops.
  2. Recommended Rate:
    • For annual monocotyledonous weeds (e.g., Setaria, seed-derived costrei): 0.8 L/ha, applied post-emergence when weeds are at the 2–4 leaf stage.
    • For perennial weeds such as costrei from rhizomes (Sorghum halepense): 1.0–1.5 L/ha, applied post-emergence when the weed is 15–20 cm tall.
  3. Preparation:
    • Dilute the recommended dose in 200–400 L of water per hectare, following technical guidelines.
  4. Application Method:
    • Uniformly spray the solution over the crop using calibrated ground equipment.
  5. Application Conditions:
    • Apply under favorable weather conditions (temperatures between 8 and 25°C) and avoid application immediately before or after rainfall (ensure no rain for 4–5 hours after treatment).

Weed Spectrum:

  • Effectively controls annual monocotyledonous weeds such as Setaria spp. (downy brome), Echinochloa crus-galli (barnyard grass), and Digitaria sanguinalis (crabgrass).
  • Also exhibits partial control over certain dicotyledonous weeds like Amaranthus retroflexus (redroot pigweed), Chenopodium album (lamb's quarters), Solanum nigrum (black nightshade), among others.

Advantages:

  • Rapid and systemic action ensures complete weed control.
  • Fully selective for corn due to the crop's ability to metabolize the active ingredient.
  • Highly effective against challenging monocotyledonous weeds.
